Fall Harvest Unit & Celebrations

We do a large unit every year on fall and everything that comes along with it! The school is filled with pumpkins, squash, hay bales and anything else that we can utilize to immerse students in the harvest experience. This is also when we hold our Family Harvest Party. Students and their families come to Building Blocks in the evening dressed in their Halloween costumes ready to carve pumpkins with their friends. The children love this party because they have become familiar with their classroom and are excited to show their families around and introduce their new friends. During the Harvest Unit we also read the book Stone Soup. Children get the opportunity to bring vegetables or spices from home and join together to make and eat stone soup at school.
